BBC Sport Scotland to air Scottish Esports League finals
BBC Scotland is set to broadcast the finals of the Scottish Esports League live online via the BBC Sport Scotland website, marking a first for the channel.
The tournament, which is organised by Esports Scotland, will take place on July 20th-21st at Resonate Total Gaming in Glasgow.
Players in attendance will compete in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Rocket League, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Rainbow Six Siege for over £5,000 in prize winnings.
James Hood, Founder of Esports Scotland commented in a release: “It’s fantastic for the Scottish Esports community to have the finals of our flagship tournament broadcast via the BBC Sport Scotland website. Esports already has a broad appeal with gamers streaming the qualifiers and finals on Twitch and Mixer but bringing it to a mass audience through the BBC could be a game-changer.
“Esports is a cultural revolution and we hope that, with the BBC’s support in bringing it to the mainstream, Scottish players and the community around them can grasp the untold opportunities that Esports offers.”
Lenovo was recently named the headline sponsor of the Scottish Esports League for 2019 and has provided PCs for the finalists to compete on. The event will be hosted in Allied Esports’ HyperX Esports Truck.
Esports Insider says: It’s always great to see more esports tournaments broadcasted on mainstream channels. BBC Three has already played host to the ESL One Finals and Gfinity Elite Series, so it’s great that the broadcast network is also highlighting small tournaments aswell.
